Road tripDhaka to Chittagong: quick stops on the way
Most people drive the Dhaka–Chittagong (Chattogram) highway without stopping, apart from a tea break. Along the way are an abandoned merchants' town, Buddhist ruins, a war cemetery, Comilla's famous rasmalai, a hill lake you can kayak on, and a beach covered in grass.

Hours, fees and road conditions change. Confirm before you set off.
Quick stops on the way
Small places most people drive straight past. Each is tagged by how long it's worth: 15 min for a quick break, 1 hour for a short experience. Follow the line from Dhaka to Chittagong. Grey dots are well-known landmarks, to help you keep your place.
Estimated times, based on approximate distances and average driving speeds, plus the time shown on each stop. Untick "Stop here" to drive past a stop. Traffic, holidays and checkpoints can add a lot.

Most drivers know these places. Agree the stops and the extra time in the price before you set off.
Make the most of the drive
- Start early. Leave Dhaka before the morning rush so Panam Nagar is quiet and you reach the Comilla stops by late morning.
- Pick two or three. Doing every 1-hour stop turns the drive into a full day, and all six into a long one.
- Eat in Comilla. It's the natural halfway break. Finish with rasmalai.
- Save the coast for the afternoon. Mohamaya Lake and Guliakhali come near the Chittagong end, good for the softer late light.

Get ready to go
- Traffic. The highway is busy with fast buses and trucks. Ask your driver to take it steady, and wear a seat belt.
- Holidays. Around Eid the trip can take twice as long. Avoid those days if you can.
- Water and kayaks. Wear a life jacket on the lake. At the beach, watch the tide and soft mud at the water's edge.
- Cash. Carry small notes for entry fees, CNGs and snacks.
- Hill Tracts. This route doesn't enter the Chittagong Hill Tracts, but side trips east of Chittagong might. Read the Bangladesh travel advice first.
