ToolWhat's near me in Dhaka?
Staying in Gulshan, landing in Uttara or visiting family in Mirpur? Type where you are. The map zooms in on you and shows the hidden gems and landmarks nearby, with how far each one is.
Distances are as the crow flies (a straight line, bird's-eye view). By road it's usually a third to a half further, and in Dhaka traffic 5 km can take an hour at rush hour. The map shows only the major roads.
Getting around
- Metro rail. MRT Line 6 runs north to south from Uttara through Mirpur, Agargaon, Farmgate and Shahbag to Motijheel, above Rokeya Sarani and the roads south of it. It is the fastest way across the city when the roads are jammed. Check the current hours and stations with Dhaka Mass Transit Company.
- Ride-hailing apps (cars and motorbikes) work across Dhaka and show the fare before you go. CNG auto-rickshaws and cycle rickshaws are everywhere; agree the fare first.
- Avoid the morning and evening rush hours on working days where you can. Fridays are usually lighter.
- Old Dhaka is best on foot and by cycle rickshaw: the lanes are too narrow and busy for cars. See our hidden gems of Dhaka guide for a day there.
- Strikes and protests happen in Dhaka and can close roads. Check local news and the U.S. State Department advisory before you go out.
Good to know
- Each place links the source we took its facts from. Opening hours and fees change, and some places close on Fridays or for prayers: check before you go.
- Areas are marked at about their centre, so the distance from your street can be a little more or less.
- Dress modestly at mosques, temples and churches, and take your shoes off where asked.
- Other cities: Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Sylhet, Rajshahi, Khulna, Barishal, Rangpur, Mymensingh, Cumilla, Narayanganj, Gazipur.
